Belts are the new Charms
Fashion has embraced minimalism in recent years, encouraging us to spend less and focus on streamlining our wardrobes with essential, statement pieces. While this approach has simplified our closets, it’s also left them feeling a bit uninspired. Enter accessories: they’ve made a triumphant return, with trinkets and charms adding personality back into our outfits. From adorning our bags—thanks to brands like Balenciaga, Prada, and Coach setting the tone at fashion week—to a resurgence in belts, it’s clear that accessorizing is having a moment.
Last summer, Chloe belts were the star accessories of their F/W 24 show. Bold logo buckles and bedazzled belts slowly but surely made a reappearance dominating the runway but is now trickling down into mainstream fashion. This fall, the trend has evolved. Belts are bigger, sturdier, and layered, making a strong statement. The girls are officially belted up, bringing structure and flair to fall fashion.

Capitalism Is Capitalising On Organic Nostalgia? Social Media Is Buzzing With The Kids Jetting Off To Japan And Snagging Vintage Louis Vuitton At Great Prices. It Seems Like Louis Vuitton Is Eager To Ride The Wave, Aiming To Get Ahead Of The Trend. In WWD The Brand Claims This Revival Targets Younger Audiences Unfamiliar With The Iconic Collaboration; Originally Introduced At LV’s Spring 2003 Show During Marc Jacobs Tenure At The House. The Monogram Multicolore Designs Are Making A Strategic Comeback.

“Young people are reviving that era, and we want to connect with them through this re-release,” said Pietro Beccari chairman and CEO at LV. This feels reminiscent of the LV x Supreme collaboration - targeting a younger audience that largely can’t afford the collection. Sure some fans of the original collaborations might now be old enough to have prioritised savings for this drop, even in an economic crisis. But let’s be real LV is pulling customers away from Japanese luxury vintage shops - A classic “business is business” move. The message seems to be: ‘why travel, explore or hunt for good deals when we’ve recreated it for you’ - just with added charms and a higher price tag? (a trend that will eventually die out). So why not collaborate with a new artist instead? Why isn’t innovation the focus?
Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami re-edition
The reedition, which follows Vuitton’s revival of its collaboration with Yayoi Kusama last year, comes at a time of stalled growth for the luxury sector overall.
Shifters & Movers
Are we more drawn to the game of musical chairs at fashion houses, or do we prefer the stability of designers holding long-term tenures? On one hand, frequent changes prevent us from seeing a designer's deeply realized vision; on the other, staying too long risks losing house codes and identity if the vision strays too far from the blueprint. Yet, when houses resist change and stay closed to fresh perspectives—like Balenciaga embracing Demna’s recent exploration of upcycling—it limits opportunities for new talent to shape the future.
